The Atlantic thinks that Todd Park, CTO of Health and Human Services can save health care, or at least revolutionize it. Well maybe not just him, but along [...]

VDay at Eliza

Valentine’s Day is a pretty big deal at Eliza.
And why not?
It’s about celebrating life, enjoying yourself, friends and family and the meaningful connections that intertwine us all.
-

-
So how to celebrate?
How about some impromptu cards, temporary tattoos and chocolate? (All things in moderation, of course.)
-

-
Moderation? Oh yeah, did we mention the world’s largest gummy bear?  No?
Okay.  Well we did that [...]

Every year Eliza throws a holiday shindig.
Food, fun, friends and of course…

Dancing!
Our CEO and President Luke and Alex can cut a rug.  We found this footage in the old Eliza archives and decided to share with [...]

Few of us really eat as well as we should.
It’s especially tough in the office.  Tough to get the right food prepared.  So often we end up grabbing junk — and taking a long time to do it.
We’ve found a solution that’s working for us: the office snack bar.
Bring in some healthy, quick stuff: bread, peanut butter, oranges, [...]

Speed Recruiting

Eliza tries a lot of things.  Some work and some don’t.  That’s the price of innovation.
-

-
One of the crazier things we’ve tried, that actually worked and worked well, was Speed Recruiting.
Basically take speed dating (five minutes at a table, bell rings, rotate, repeat) and apply it to an interviewing process and there you have it.
As [...]

Picnic Fun

Eliza’s located on Boston’s North Shore.
-

-
It gets cold in the winter…
-

-
… so when the weather turns nice it has to be enjoyed.
Bookending the summer season were a couple of events
An impromptu Spring Fling BBQ (professional chef Melissa whipping up a feast including steak sandwiches with orange and chili sauce):
-

-
and a company-wide picnic capping off the season:

-
Food, fun, [...]

Puma City opened in Boston today.
-

-
It’s a retail story/nightclub that follows the Puma boat in the Volvo Ocean Race around from Rio, to Boston, to Ireland and Russia — setting up shop and welcoming folks.
Oh yeah, it’s also made from recycled shipping containers and written up by design folks like Apartment Therapy and 2Modern.

-
Lots of great [...]

Health 2.0 kicked off this morning in Boston - and Eliza kicked it off.
The 2009 Health 2.0 in Boston is a joint gig with The Center for Information Therapy focusing on the tensions and synergies between Information Therapy and the whole 2.0 ‘thing’ (users engaging in an architecture of participation).
-
-
Add to that how hot health [...]

So what happened at SXSW ‘09?
Lots of social media gurus - really popular since it’s catching on in the corporate and mainstream worlds.
Question was largely: “So what’s next?”  ”Why do we care?”  or in the words of Tim O’Reilly, “How do we use this to get to the STUFF THAT MATTERS?”
One of the themes that came [...]

Around SXSW ‘09

So Eliza spoke at SXSW…

-
… and we promised to share the experience.
(This and the following are Flash videos, so if you can’t see it just make sure you have the latest Flash version by downloading it here.)
There was a lot to do and see:

… and Eliza spoke and [...]

The energy here at SXSW is a very different vibe than what you typically see in the health care industry - less blue blazers, more blue hair.
Most people know about SXSW for its music and film fests, which are truly extraordinary (How can you beat hanging out on the Austin City Limits stage at a Wired [...]

Alex lost a bet to Lucas and had to dress up as his alma mater’s mascot (MIT’s beaver).

This is a SXSW Interactive  ’09 Core Conversation, a free-flowing, conversational exchange.

Blogging Is Dead!

Blogging is dead.
Wired Magazine said so.
They make the point that if you start a blog you’re almost guaranteed not to have it seriously adopted or indexed up to the top of a search engine.  There’s too much noise.  And now the professionals have caught on.  Most new blogs are corporate.  And corporate blogs are bad. [...]

After toying around with this blog for a bit we’re launching it for real.
Letting folks know it exists and we’ll roll with it - asking for feedback and contributions.
But how to kick it off?
What’s that? ” Food,”  you said?
-
-
How’d you know?
So we did kick it off with a surprise omelette breakfast - complete with [...]
